When do you have your holidays?

When do you have your holidays?

People ask me. Hmm, that’s a tricky question. I’m kind of having my holidays right now, because it’s summer in Finland you know, but at the same time I’m getting more work than during the rest of the year. The reason for this is that when big companies’ personnel retreats to their yearly 2 to 6 weeks of paid vacation, their workload tends to trickle down to us small entrepreneurs and freelancers. And so be it – as long as it’s doable by telecommuting!

Veden ääreen rakentaminen yleistyy kovaa vauhtia, ja varsinkin Helsinki niemellä sijaitsevana asuinalueena hakee kasvutilaa merelle päin. Arvokkaille rantatonteille halutaan laadukkaita taloja, joiden julkisivujen on kestettävä aikaa, katseita ja ilmastonmuutoksen kiihdyttämiä säänvaihteluita. I’ve always wanted to go to San Francisco. It’s a magical city built on high hills like only a few others in the world and connected to the surrounding areas by amazing suspension bridges. It is the home of the hippies and beatniks and other exciting phenomena that I remember from my childhood in the 1970s, and it is pictured in many of my all-time favorite movies. So, when my friends moved there a couple of years ago, I knew my chance to go had come.

Uni alkoi aina samalla tavalla: Oli synkkä ja myrskyinen yö. Maatilan ikkunaluukut oli suljettu ja eläimet tuotu sisälle suojaan. Sade piiskasi tallin kattoa, ja vettä tulvi rännejä pitkin pihan mukulakiville. Musta ori ei tahtonut lähteä karsinastaan. Jouduin kiskomaan sen väkisin pihalle… Siri näkee aina saman painajaisen. Hän ratsastaa mustalla orilla mereen pelastamaan purjelaivaa, muttei koskaan pääse perille. Uni on niin todellinen, ettei hän lopulta tiedä, onko se edes unta. Kirjailija: Diana Hallam.
